The Guyden Record Company was founded in Philadelphia in 1952, with Bob Cordell as General
Manager. Guyden's first address was 2250 Bryn Mawr Avenue in Philadelphia. By Spring, 1954, they
had moved to 1314 S. Howard St, and then in June to 1334 Lincoln-Liberty Building, in Philadelphia. It
was acquired sometime later by Harold Lipsius, and by 1959 was at 1330 W. Girard Avenue in
Philadelphia, as part of Jamie-Guyden Records. Later, Jamie-Guyden moved to 919 Broad Street in
Philadelphia.
The album label design featured the Guyden logo on top, which included a torch whose flame was enclosed by the "G" in Guyden, and four stars to the right of the label name. There was an arc at the top of the label which separated the two colors, silver and purple. Albums 501 and 502 were purple with a silver top, and album 503 was silver with a purple top. |
